The white man who was caught on camera grabbing a Black man by the neck over a bicycle is now facing charges, according to WISN.
Prosecutors filed a criminal complaint against 62-year-old Robert Walczykowski Thursday (October 27) for putting his hand around 24-year-old Trevon Burks on October 10. Deangelo Wright recorded the shocking moment in Milwaukee's south side, which has gone viral and led to calls for charges against Walczykowski.
Walczykowski accused Burks, who relatives said has developmental delays, of stealing a bicycle from his yard in the footage. Burks repeatedly denied these claims before and after the 62-year-old wrapped his fingers around the Black man's neck. Wright intervenes by pulling Walczykowski's hand away from Burks.
The video sparked outrage across the country and even a protest outside Walczykowski's home. Community activists have drawn parallels between Walczykowski's actions and what happened to Black men like Ahmaud Arbery.
"My son didn't do anything wrong and, if I was to get justice, I would want him to pay for what he did," Burks's mother, Tracey, said during a recent press conference, per WISN. "That was very wrong for him to do that and he could've come at my son a different way. He didn't have to choke my son. It was a hatred thing, what he did."
Walczykowski was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, according to the complaint. He's scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, November 2.
