An expectant mother in Florida was found dead next to a car holding her sleeping, 23-month-old son.
According to People, 22-year-old Alana Sims, who was five months pregnant, died in what the Tampa Police Department believes to be a "targeted attack." She was found dead outside of her vehicle on the street of a residential neighborhood with upper body trauma on Monday (January 30) night).
"I can tell you, when she was laying on the ground, it appeared she had been deceased for a bit of time," Tampa PD spokesperson Crystal Clark told 10 Tampa Bay.
Sims' son was found asleep in the car next to her body. The boy, who turns two next month, was unharmed in the incident and is now under the care of Sims' family.
"Alana was the best person you could be around. She wasn't around drama," Shahlevi Sims, the victim's mother, told People.
The case is being investigated by homicide detectives, according to Tampa PD.
A GoFundMe page was created by the family to help with expenses for the funeral of "a devoted mother who has a son who she loved very much."
Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to call the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130 or share a tip through TIP411, accessible through the TampaPD app.
