A lawyer for Jonathan Majors is maintaining his innocence after the Creed lll star was arrested on assault charges following an alleged domestic altercation.
On Sunday (March 26), Priya Chaudhry, Majors' attorney, said in a statement that the actor is "completely innocent and is probably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows," the Daily Mail reports.
Chaudry also claimed there is video evidence that will exonerate Majors of assault and that the alleged victim recanted her statements regarding the incident.
Majors was arrested on Saturday (March 25) after officers responded to a "domestic dispute" call in New York, per the New York Police Department. The alleged victim told police Majors struck her "about the face with an open hand causing substantial pain and a laceration behind her ear" after the pair got into an argument. She also claimed Majors "grabbed her hand and put his hands on her neck, causing swelling, bruising, and substantial pain to her neck and hand," per the Daily Mail.
Following the arrest, Majors was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court in May.
Majors' lawyer said her team is "quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently."
"All the evidence proves that Mr. Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her whatsoever," Chaudhry said, claiming that the incident "came about because this woman was having an emotional crisis, for which she was taken to a hospital yesterday."
A spokesperson for Majors also denied the assault allegations, saying the actor "has done nothing wrong."
"We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up," the spokesperson said.
