A Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced for plotting to kill her ex-boyfriend after he broke up with her.

On Monday (August 14), Joyce Brown-Rodriguez, 56, was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to third-degree murder in connection to the killing of her ex-boyfriend, Christopher M. Wilson, 52, per People.

Brown-Rodriguez previously testified that she drove her son, Kahlill Brown, to Wilson's workplace at a recycling facility in Middletown Township, Pennsylvania in December 2020. Brown got out of the car and shot Wilson several times before his mother drove him back to Philadelphia.

According to the Bucks County District Attorney's Office, Brown-Rodriguez and Wilson had been dating since 2018 before he ended the relationship. The day before the shooting, Brown-Rodriguez contacted Wilson multiple times and showed up at his workplace where a co-worker said they got into an argument, authorities said.

Brown-Rodriguez said she later asked for help from her son, who said he would "talk" to Wilson. Following the fatal shooting, Brown-Rodriguez testified that she asked her son “What the [expletive] did you do?.”

“I didn’t feel like talkin,’” Brown said, according to his mom.

Judge Jeffrey L. Finley called the killing a “callous murder” before handing down Brown-Rodriguez's sentence. Brown has been found guilty of first-degree murder and is set to be sentenced next month.
