The Baltimore Ravens are already making NFL history before the 2023 season officially kicks off.
According to Sports Illustrated, the Ravens are believed to have the first-ever, all-Black quarterback room, which includes players and coaches. Quarterback coach Tee Martin, assistant coach Kerry Dixon, and players Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley, and Josh Johnson, all of whom are Black, make up the Ravens' QB room this season.
Martin moved to the QB room during the offseason after coaching the Ravens' wide receivers for the past two years.
“We definitely are standing on the shoulders of people in the past,” the quarterback coach said. “I do think it’s a step forward for people like us, but we’ve got to do a good job.”
Jason Reid, the author of “Rise of the Black Quarterback: What It Means for America,” called the Ravens' all-Black quarterback room "groundbreaking."
“So what the Ravens have right now is definitely groundbreaking, even in 2023," Reid said. "The significance of it is that we are now in the era of the Black quarterback in the NFL.”
The Baltimore Ravens hope to earn the organization's third Super Bowl title this season. The team will face off against the Houston Texans in Week 1 on Sunday (September 10).
