A Georgia couple who's suing a doctor for allegedly decapitating their baby during childbirth is now taking legal action against a pathologist accused of posting autopsy photos of the infant online.
According to WAGA, Jessica Taylor and her boyfriend Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr. have filed a lawsuit against Dr. Jackson Gates, accusing him of taking $2,500 to perform an autopsy on their deceased child and leaking the graphic photos to Instagram. Reporters claim the media included a full-face picture of the baby and videos of the boy's organs.
This comes after the couple sued OB-GYN Tracey St. Julian for allegedly using too much force during their son's delivery at Southern Regional Medical Center back in July.
"This is diabolical. There is something wrong," Rod Edmond, one of the attorneys representing the family, told reporters. "After all of the abuse suffered by this young couple, unfortunately, Dr. Gates continued to perpetuate it, their abuse, by posting both photos and video of their decapitated child on social media, namely Instagram."
Gates has defended his alleged actions, claiming he uploaded the content for educational purposes.
"I want you to hear this clearly, I will never divulge the identity or disclose the identity of any live patients or any deceased patients that come for my care," Dr. Gates said in a video posted to his Instagram, which is now private.
According to the lawsuit against St. Julian, doctors were accused of pulling "on the baby’s head and neck so hard and manipulated them so hard, that the bones in the baby’s skull, head and neck were broken." The couple didn't find out the baby was decapitated until they performed a cesarean on Ross, who was in labor for 10 hours.
Clayton County police are also investigating the incident.
