A Black doctor and his party guests are seeking legal action against the white man accused of spraying them with a water hose during a New York City dinner earlier this month, per New York Post.
Yves Duroseau, a 52-year-old Manhattan doctor, hosted a surprise dinner party for his sister Rosevony Duroseau at his Queens home on September 17, 2022, with mostly Black and Latino guests attending the lavish backyard event. As the festivities were underway, an unidentified white woman entered the foyer entrance of Duroseau's home with her dog and demanded they turn the music down, according to a lawsuit filed in Brooklyn Supreme Court.
After assuring the woman the event was winding down, that's when the doctor's white neighbor, Marcus Rosebrock, started dousing the partygoers from his own yard, court papers claim.
According to the filing, Katya Dossous, one of the guests, tried to "calmly" speak with him to stop his actions, but the neighbor responded by blasting her "at high intensity and viciously hosed her with water from head to toe." Reporters also shared pictures of Dossous in soaked clothes shortly after the alleged incident.
“We experienced a very specific, very heinous type of attack that harkens back to a dark period of this country’s history,” Dossous said in a statement obtained by the Post on Tuesday (September 26). “An attack I believe was premeditated, deliberate, and thought out with the intent to make us feel ‘less than,’ like animals.”
The lawsuit also claims Rosebuck's alleged actions were "reminiscent" of the 1960s Alabama, where white police officers would douse civil rights activists.
“Water hoses have long been used against people of color,” Dossous’ statement continued. “Mr. Rosebrock chose this specific method with the intent of dehumanizing us.”
All nineteen party attendants, including the Duroseaus, have joined the lawsuit against Rosebrock and the white woman for battery, assault, trespassing, and other violations.
Brand Gillard, Rosebrock's lawyer, issued a statement saying his client “refutes any characterization that he is racist or that his actions were racially motivated.” He also accused the partygoers "aggressive and violent" that night, but didn't elaborate further on Rosebrock's alleged actions.
