A white woman is facing a slew of charges after authorities allege she called a Black security guard racial slurs and physically assaulted him. According to KATU, the incident happened on November 2 at a Safeway store at NW 13th and Lovejoy in Portland.
Court documents allege 43-year-old Janee Jewell Plummer walked into the retailer, stuffed several foods into her bag, and tried leaving the store without paying. When the security guard stopped her from walking away, Plummer allegedly said she "owed the store" and attempted to push past him.
Loss prevention officers got involved and began restraining her, according to police. That's when Plummer started belting the N-word at the Black security guard, punched him in the face, and spat on him, documents state.
When officers arrived and questioned Plummer, she allegedly admitted that she had no intention of paying for the items. As for the racial slurs, Plummer reportedly told officers, "I don't have to like Black people, and I don't" and uttered the N-word several more times, according to officials.
Plummer was booked into Multnomah County Jail for several charges, including bias crime, harassment, third-degree theft, and robbery. She's scheduled to appear in court on November 14.
Reporters dug into her criminal past and found out Plummer racked up 17 convictions dating back to 1999. She was sentenced to five-year probation for a February 2023 attempted robbery, where she tried to take a woman's dogs and threatened to kill the victim.
