A 52-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly followed a family member from Kenya to the U.S. and sought to have them murdered.

On Monday (December 4), Leonard Thuo Mwithiga was arrested in Connecticut on charges of attempt to commit murder and attempt to commit murder with special circumstances, according to court documents obtained by People.

The charges stem from an alleged plot where Mwithiga asked his Uber driver to find someone to "finish" one of his female family members. The Uber driver and Mwithiga communicated for months outside of the Uber app.

The driver recorded their conservations and turned them over to authorities.

The victim told police that she attempted to escape Mwithiga multiple times in Kenya. On the occasions she tried to escape, Mwithiga allegedly reported her to the police and had her committed to a mental institution.

After receiving the driver's evidence, police assigned an undercover agent to meet with Mwithiga and act as his contracted killer. Speaking with the undercover agent, Mwithiga allegedly said he wanted to "fight evil with evil" and suggested his family member be "injected with something to make her very sick, 'Like a cancer.'"

According to police, Mwithiga offered the undercover agent $4,000 for the killing, saying he wanted the woman to suffer a "slow death." Mwithiga allegedly requested the murder occur between January 28 and February 3, 2024, when he was back in Kenya.

Mwithiga is currently being held on a $5,000,000 bond and his next court date is set for January.
