A Miami University student appeared to be beaten by Oxford police outside of a bar in a TikTok video that's going viral.

The video, posted on TikTok by a woman claiming to the be the victim's cousin, begins with three people not wearing police uniforms pinning a man on the ground. At one point in the video, an officer approaches the group and appears to punch the restrained man multiple times.

Oxford police said the video is linked to security footage of a November arrest outside of a bar, per Local 10 News. According to police, officers were responding to a disturbance call. Someone told dispatchers that a worker at Brick Bar was assaulted, police said.

"Our original examination and administrative review of this incident did not include this video angle. As a result, we will conduct an investigation into the use of force by the officer and an administrative review of our policies," Oxford police said in a statement. "We understand this video can be disturbing and shocking and we are committed to conducting a transparent investigation. There is misinformation being shared on social media regarding this incident."

Miami University confirmed that the man who was beaten by police was a student.

"Miami University’s top priority is the safety and well being of all of our students. We recently were made aware of a disturbing video which appears to be showing a member of local public law enforcement not affiliated with the university striking one of our students at an off-campus location," the school said in a statement. "As soon as we were made aware, we were in touch with the student and his representative to offer support. We will continue to honor his right to privacy. We have contacted the City of Oxford to learn more about this incident and to express our deep concerns about what occurred."
