Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes fielded questions on Monday (February 5) about his father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., who was arrested on DWI charges last week.

“He's doing good,” the quarterback said on the Super Bowl’s opening night. "I don't really want to get into it too much, but he's doing good for whatever the situation is."

"It's a family matter. I'll just keep it to the family, and that's all I really have to say at this point," he added.

On Saturday (February 3), Mahomes Sr., 53, was arrested in Tyler, Texas on charges of driving while intoxicated. He was booked in Smith County Jail and later released on a $10,000 bond.

Saturday marked the father's third DWI arrest. Mahomes Sr. faced DWI charges in 2018 and 2019. In the 2018 case, Mahomes Sr. pled guilty and served 40 days in prison.

Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to become back-to-back Super Bowl Champions on Sunday (February 11) when they take on the San Francisco 49ers. Players fielded questions from reporters on Monday to kick off Super Bowl LVIII festivities.

“It builds and sets the tone for the whole week. It's the biggest stage in the world. Monday night is going to be where it starts for everybody,” Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce told CBS. “At this point, I just love it, it's an exciting time. It's a once-in-a-lifetime type of thing that I've been able to enjoy a few times.”
