Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D) has moved to get her viral comment about Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) trademarked.
On Sunday (May 19), Crockett filed a trademark application to gain rights to her viral remark "BLEACH BLONDE BAD BUILT BUTCH BODY," which she aimed at Greene amid a chaotic House Oversight Committee meeting last week, per USA Today.
Lawmakers gathered on Thursday (May 16) to vote on whether Attorney General Merrick Garland should be held in contempt of Congress for declining to hand over audio recordings of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur about his handling of classified documents.
Chaos ensued after Greene responded to one of Crockett's questions, saying, “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) and other Democrats swiftly condemned Greene's comment, asking that her words be struck from the record and for the GOP lawmaker to apologize to Crockett.
"That is absolutely unacceptable," Ocasio-Cortez said. "How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person?"
At one point during the hearing, Crockett shot back at Greene, saying “I’m just curious ... If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blonde bad built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”
After her comment went viral, the Democratic lawmaker advertised “A Crockett Clapback Collection” on X, formerly Twitter.
“This collection will feature various swag that includes random things I’ve said,” Crockett tweeted on Friday (May 17).
Crockett added that it would take "a little time" before the collection launched but noted that “BLEACH BLONDE BAD BUILT BUTCH BODY” would be featured on a black T-shirt.
