The man who went viral for driving during a virtual court hearing for his suspended license case says he should've never been charged, per ABC 7 News.

Last month, a video of Corey Harris' court virtual court hearing before Ann Arbor, Michigan judge Cedric Simpson went viral as the defendant appeared on Zoom from behind the wheel.

“Mr. Harris, are you driving?” Simpson asked.

"Actually, I’m pulling into my doctor’s office," Harris responded. “So, just give me one second. I’m parking right now.”

The judge, baffled by Harris driving with a suspended license during his hearing, ultimately revoked his bond and ordered him to report to jail that day. He spent two days in prison.

Harris spoke out about his involvement in the viral court hearing.

"It's very embarrassing," Harris said. "With the type of ties that I have with the church and the community, it's very embarrassing."

The man said he was trying to get medical help for his wife during the hearing.

"What was I thinking? I was thinking about getting my wife medical help. That's what I was thinking," Harris said. "I wasn't thinking about the fact that I got a suspended license. I don't care about all that."

Harris revealed that he shouldn't have even been charged for driving on a suspended license. According to Secretary of State records, Harris' license was initially suspended back in 2010 for unpaid child support in Saginaw County.

Court records show that a judge rescinded the suspension in 2022. Information about the change apparently never made its way to the Secretary of State.

Harris cited the mix-up by the Saginaw Friend of Court for messing up his case.

"Always double-check behind these workers because they will say that they will do something and they don't do it," he said.
