Several Black stars took home awards at the 2024 Tonys.
On Sunday (June 16), Broadway's biggest stars were honored at the 77th Tony Awards hosted by Ariana DeBose at the Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater in New York City.
Dede Ayite made history as the first Black Woman to Win a Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Play. Billy Porter was honored with the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award for his contributions as an activist and spokesperson for the LGBTQ+ community.
The show also featured a surprise performance from Alicia Keys and Jay-Z.

Lewis won Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for her role in Hell's Kitchen.
Kara Young
Young, who starred in Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch, took home the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play.
Branden Jacobs-Jenkins
Playwright Jacobs-Jenkins' Appropriate was awarded Best Revival of a Play.
Dede Ayite
Ayite was awarded for her work on Jaja's African Hair Braiding with Best Costume Design of a Play.
Billy Porter
Porter took home the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award.
Maleah Joi Moon
Moon won the award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her role in Hell’s Kitchen.
Nikiya Mathis
Mathis received a special Tony award for her hair and wig design and maintenance in Jaja’s African Hair Braiding.
CJay Philip
Phillip was awarded a Tony for Excellence in Theatre Education.
