A Florida mother has been sentenced to five years in prison after her 10-year-old daughter shot a woman at a barbecue, per PEOPLE.
Lakrisha Isaac, 33, was charged with manslaughter and culpable negligence in connection to the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Lashun Rodgers in Orlando, Florida.
The charges stemmed from a reported confrontation between Isaac and Rodgers over a social media post. During a fight between the two, Isaac handed her 10-year-old daughter a backpack with a gun. The 10-year-old used the gun to shoot and kill Rodgers.
The girl was arrested after the shooting and is currently being held in juvenile detention. It's unclear what charges the 10-year-old is facing.
Isaac pleaded no contest to manslaughter and culpable negligence in May. She could've faced a maximum of 20 years in prison.
“The slap on the wrist and the pat on the back that the court has given you today is not okay,” the victim’s sister, Sharetta Rodgers, said in court. “It’s not okay to take a life and this is not justified. And this is not justice for Lashun Rodgers.”
"I love and miss her so much,” Rodgers’ mother, Laura Chambliss, added. “God is the final judge."
