The Los Angeles Police Department has launched an investigation after a viral video showed an officer punching a handcuffed Black man during an arrest, per Fox 11.

On Sunday (July 28), LAPD officers pulled the man over in South Los Angeles for reasons that remain unclear. Video of the man's interaction with police shows him asking "What did I do, though?" as two officers were handcuffing him.

The man appeared to be complying during the arrest when one of the officers sucker punched him in the right jaw. In the video, bystanders could be heard reacting to the punch.

After video of the arrest went viral on social media, LAPD said they were investigating the officer involved in the incident. The cop was also pulled from field duties.

Activist Najee Ali spoke out about the incident on Monday (July 29), demanding accountability.

"The video speaks for itself. The young man was punched in the face. Cold-cocked for no reason. Standing there handcuffed and not restraining whatsoever," Ali said.

"What we saw in that videotape never should have happened," he added. "We need to have these officers in handcuffs put in jail for assaulting citizen… he was punched for no reason. He did not understand why he was punched because he was not resisting. Clearly, he's a big man, but to be sucker punched. Caught him off guard."
