A Maryland man has been sentenced to 68 years in prison after fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend and her mother and attempting to burn their baby to death, PEOPLE reports.

On Friday (October 18), Superior Court Judge Maribeth Raffinan handed down the sentence to 35-year-old Keanan Turner, who had been found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder while armed with aggravated circumstances, assault with intent to kill while armed, aggravated assault while armed, attempted first-degree murder of a minor, second-degree cruelty to children, arson and destruction of property.

Turner was also convicted of four counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence and carrying a pistol without a license.

According to federal prosecutors, Turner asked his ex-girlfriend, Ebony Wright, to have an abortion after she informed him of her pregnancy. Turner stopped talking to Wright when she refused to have the procedure.

Wright later contacted Turner to file a custody and child support lawsuit against him, according to prosecutors. On August 21, 2021, Turner said he wanted to meet their child at Wright's apartment in Washington D.C.

Wright's mother, Wanda, and her sister, Destiny, accompanied her to the meeting. During the encounter with his son, Turner excused himself to the bathroom and returned with a gun, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said Turner shot Wright and her mother in the head and Destiny in her face. Before leaving the apartment, Turner also lit custody papers and the residence on fire in "an attempt to kill his own child," per prosecutors.

While bleeding from the face, Destiny grabbed the child and saved herself and the infant from the fire.

A GoFundMe campaign was started to raise money for funeral expenses and the cost of living for Wright's sister and child.
