Three Black employees have agreed to settle their lawsuits against Nashville Electric Service (NES) where they allegedly faced discrimination and a racially hostile work environment, per the Tennessean.
In January 2023, NES employee Walter E. Clark began a string of lawsuits brought against the power company, alleging he was passed over for promotions, harassed at work, and called racial epithets. Clark said management failed to take action after he reported the issues.
NES Employees Jimmie Hunt and Timothy Jones followed Clark's suit in May 2023, accusing their employer of similar shortcomings. Hunt accused the company of calling him to retrieve a noose that was found on the property. The incident was "disturbing in a lot of ways," Hunt said.
When discussing NES' promotional practices, Hunt previously said: "It feels like ... they tried to knock out all the minorities from getting the promotions."
It's unclear what the terms of the settlement are. Hunt said a protection order is in place to stop him from discussing the settlement.
