Live Updates: 2024 Presidential Election Results

As the first polls close, the high-stakes race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris remains neck-and-neck. All eyes are on key battleground states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona, Michigan, and Wisconsin, where the final decision could be made. Stay tuned as results continue to roll in across the country.

What To Know:

  • A candidate needs at least 270 out of 538 Electoral votes to win the election.
  • Most polling stations will close to voters between 7 p.m. ET and 11 p.m. ET.
  • Election results from some states will immediately start to come in, while others have election laws that could lead to days of counting.
  • In North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, and Arizona, election workers can securely process and count ballots before Election Day. Those results are withheld until shortly after the polls close. However, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin laws prohibit officials from preparing to count millions of absentee ballots until Election Day.
  • Mail-in ballots in Nevada that are postmarked by Election Day have until Saturday (November 9) to arrive. Nevada also allows residents to "cure" ballots they may have forgotten to sign, which could also lead to delays in election results.
  • Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin are all projected to be swing states, so the election could be undecided for days.

Majority-Black City's Polling Places Hit With 'Non-Credible' Bomb Threats (11/5 4:24 pm ET)

Several "non-credible" bomb threats interrupted Georgia voting at two polling places in a majority-Black city.

On Tuesday (November 5), Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said bomb threats at Etris Community Center and Gullatt Elementary in Union City, which boasts a nearly 90 percent Black population, originated from Russia, per CNN.

“We’ve heard some threats that were of Russian origin. I don’t know how to describe that that’s viable – we don’t think they are, but in the interest of public safety, we always check that out, and we’ll just continue to be very responsible when we hear about stuff like that,” Raffensperger said in a statement. “We identified the source, and it was from Russia.”

“They’re up to mischief, it seems, and they don’t want us to have a smooth, fair, and accurate election,” he added. “Anything that can get us to fight amongst ourselves - they can count that as a victory.”

The FBI also addressed the threats but didn't name a source.
