Denzel Washington appeared slightly nervous during his first interaction with King Charles, video shows.
On Wednesday (November 13), Washington appeared on the red carpet at Leicester Square Odeon for the London premiere of his new film Gladiator II.
Washington was joined by his costars, Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, and director Sir Ridley Scott, all of whom formed a line on the carpet to be greeted by Charles.
Video from the event shows Washington stumbling over his exchange with British royalty. As Charles extended his hand to shake Washington's, the Oscar-winning actor said, "I didn’t know if I was supposed to grab your hand."
Charles then asked Washington about his role in Gladiator II as Emperor Macrinus.
"I’m ... just an awful … I’m a lovely man you’ll see. I’m a lovely chap," Washington said with apparent hesitation.
The King also applauded Washington for his "fantastic" movie career, prompting the Gladiator II star to thank him multiple times.
The interaction between the pair ended as Charles, who appeared to be all smiles during the exchange, stepped over to greet Pascal.
