A slew of celebrities and organizations are leaving X, formerly Twitter, following Donald Trump's election win.
Since tech billionaire Elon Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, users dissatisfied with his leadership have been leaving the app and exploring other alternatives. Musk's recent involvement in Trump's 2024 presidential campaign has prompted a mass exodus from X. Earlier this week, Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy were appointed as leaders of Trump's newly created Department of Government Efficiency.
Lizzo announced that she was joining Blue Sky, which was launched by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, sharing a screenshot of her page on TikTok. Bluesky confirmed that it gained more than 700,000 new users in the week following the election.
"#thegreatdigitalmigration," Lizzo wrote on TikTok.
"Wait... are we having fun on the internet again?" the singer added on Blue Sky.
In an Instagram video, Don Lemon also announced his departure from X and encouraged people to follow him on Blue Sky.
"I have loved connecting with all of you on Twitter and then on X for all of these years, but it's time for me to leave the platform," Lemon said. "I once believed it was a place for honest debate and discussion, transparency, and free speech, but I now feel it does not serve that purpose."
Jamie Lee Curtis shared a screenshot of her recently deactivated X account on Instagram.
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference," she wrote.
News outlet The Guardian, the Berlin Film Festival, and Beaches actress Bette Midler also announced they were quitting the app.
