Video shows a group of white men attacking a Black man in a North Carolina store in an apparent act of vigilante violence.

According to The Root, the incident unfolded at a Rural King store last week. Video shows the Black man, identified as Renard Edwards, on the ground being beaten up by a group of white customers in the store. At one point during the brawl, one of the men put Edwards in a chokehold while the other customers taunted him.

“I can’t breathe," Edwards could be heard saying during the incident.

It's unclear how the brawl started, but employees had reportedly accused Edwards and his girlfriend of stealing and ordered them to leave the store. The vigilante group appeared to take action into their own hands as they waited for police to arrive.

“Bae, don’t leave me,” Edwards said in the video as he was being restrained by the men.

According to reports, Conover police officers arrived at the scene and arrested Edwards. It's unclear what charges Edwards is facing.
