After reports circulated that Naya Rivera's sister, Nickayla, moved in with her sister's ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey, and their son, Josey, the actor has come forward with an explanation for the recent family update.
On Tuesday (September 29), Dorsey, 37, took to Instagram to address the gossip headlines about Nickayla in a lengthy 12-minute video. “I can't believe that this is real life and I’m about to address any of this nonsense," the actor kicked off the video, referencing the negative comments that his family has received since Rivera's untimely death in July. "It's truly sad that this is the world that we live in, where people were raised to think it’s OK to just spew hatred in general. … Especially when you make statements about a family who are dealing with a tragedy that I hope is so unimaginable that you or anyone that is close to you never has to go through."
After Dorsey addressed the grief that he's had to deal with as a single parent, he spoke about the "longest days" of his life when the Glee alum went missing on July 8. "You know the result of the search. You know what that result is going to be when it ends and the conversation that you’re going to have to have with him, it's sad," he explained. "And when the young boy says, 'Oh, do you think that we’ll find her? I just want them to find her.’ And that, you know that he’s so smart. Um, and you know he witnessed a nightmare right before his eyes and he knows that even if they find her, she’s not coming home. It’s sad."
"I mean, man, saying that this is sad is the understatement of my life," he continued. "And then I have to tell him, 'Oh, she’s an angel now. And she’s with God and she’s in heaven.’ And he says, ‘Well, I want to go there. How do I get there?' I wouldn’t wish that upon any of your ears to have to hear that, hear those words come out of the sweetest soul you know."
Nonetheless, Dorsey and his son have leaned on Rivera's family amid their grieving period and it was Josey that asked if Nickayla can move in with them.
"Then he asked me if TiTi can live with us. 'I want TiTi to live with us, forever.' Because she's now the closest thing that he has to a mom. "Because you're going to need all the help you can get as a single parent, trying to build your career and navigate this disaster with your child. You deal with it every hour of every day for 80-plus days now,” he explained.
"And to have to let him get what he wants, you know, what he asks for and what he needs right now, which is his family. Even though if you know it’s temporary and it’s not forever. It’s a temporary situation and after all that he’s had to go through, how could you deny him that?"
