The Atlanta Falcons announced that they will be using a pair of drones to clean and sanitize Mercedes-Benz Stadium after home games. The D1 disinfecting drones are made by Charlotte-based Lucid Drone Technologies and are equipped with electrostatic spraying nozzles that evenly spray medical-grade disinfecting chemicals all over the stadium.
The hypochlorous acid solution is nontoxic and includes an inhibitor that prevents bacteria and viruses from adhering to surfaces without leaving a residue behind.
"The process of welcoming fans back involves actively listening and responding to their concerns, and we understand that proper cleaning and sanitization protocols are top of mind in the current environment,'' said Dietmar Exler, COO of AMB Sports and Entertainment. "We have worked tirelessly to provide a safe environment for not only our associates, players, and staff, but especially our fans."
The drones will clean and disinfect the seating bowl, handrails, and glass partitions throughout the stadium. They will reduce the amount of time it usually takes to clean the stadium by 95% and free up staff members to focus on other tasks.
The team allowed 500 family members, friends, and associates, into the stadium for their week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears and are going to let a limited number of fans into the stadium for their October 11 game against the Carolina Panthers.
