Patriots-Chiefs Game Postponed After Cam Newton Tests Positive For COVID-19

The NFL has postponed Sunday's (October 4) Week 4 matchup between the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs after Patriots quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19. The league said the game would be played on either Monday or Tuesday.

"The New England-Kansas City game scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday will be rescheduled to Monday or Tuesday after positive COVID-19 tests on both teams," the league announced in a statement. "In consultation with infectious disease experts, both clubs are working closely with the NFL and the NFLPA to evaluate multiple close contacts, perform additional testing, and monitor developments. All decisions will be made with the health and safety of players, team, and gameday personnel as our primary consideration."

Newton was placed on the reserve/COVID list, and the Patriots said that he is in self-quarantine. The team noted that all players, coaches, and staff members who came in close contact with him tested negative for COVID-19.

Chiefs practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta'amu also tested positive for COVID-19. Ta'amu is the Chiefs scout team quarterback and spent the week playing as "Cam Newton" in practice. After learning of his positive test, the Chiefs closed down their team facility as a precaution.
