Ice Cube Defends Working With Trump Campaign

Ice Cube is defending his decision to work with Donald Trump's administration on a plan for Black America.

On Tuesday (October 14) an adviser to Trump revealed on Twitter that the business mogul and hip-hop legend previously advised the Trump administration on their Platinum Plan. "Shoutout to @IceCube for his willingness to step up and work with @ReaDonaldTrump Administration to help develop the #PlatinumPlan," Kartina Pierson tweeted.

Cube, who has been a vocal critic of Trump, then clarified his role, tweeting, "Facts: I put out the CWBA. Both parties contacted me. Dems said we’ll address the CWBA after the election. Trump campaign made some adjustments to their plan after talking to us about the CWBA."

The CWBA stands for Cube's "Contract With Black America" — a contract the NWA legend released back in July amid the nationwide Black Lives Matter protests. The document, which is described as "a blueprint to achieve racial economic justice," urges politicians who are asking for Black Americans' votes to support the plan and "demand an open debate and a clear and fair vote within the first 100 days of the 117th Congress in 2021 on the following proposals to be codified into specific bills."

Despite Cube's clarification of his role as an advisor for the Trump administration, he received almost immediate backlash as many called him a hypocrite and sell out, citing Cube's past criticism of his late friend and former N.W.A. member Eazy-E for attending a fundraiser for President George H.W. Bush.

"Every side is the Darkside for us here in America," Cube tweeted in response to a fan who accused him of "working with the dark side."

"They’re all the same until something changes for us. They all lie and they all cheat but we can’t afford not to negotiate with whoever is in power or our condition in this country will never change. Our justice is bipartisan," the 51-year-old rapper continued. He later added, "Black progress is a bipartisan issue. When we created the Contract With Black America we excepted to talk to both sides of the isle. Talking truth to power is part of the process. [...] I will advise anybody on the planet who has the power to help Black Americans close the enormous wealth gap."

Cube, who has yet to endorse a presidential candidate, tweeted in September that he'd vote for the candidate who planned to do the most for the Black American community. "After getting a very close look at our politics and politicians, I’ve turned into a single issue voter," he tweeted. "My single issue is, whoever does the most for Black Americans will get my vote. If you leave us blank, I will leave you blank. Crumbles not excepted."
