All eyes were on "the other election" this year.
With 35 Senate seats up for election in the 100-member chamber, apart from the Presidential election, the party who won the Senate majority was the biggest question of the 2020 election year.
Republicans won the majority in 2014 and held a 53-47 advantage in the Senate going into the 2020 election. However, this year brought Democrats’ first real chance to take it back.
The GOP had to defend 23 seats this year. While Democrats had to defend 12 and needed to flip a net three seats if Joe Biden won or four seats if he lost, leaving a possibility of a high-stakes fight for two years of Senate control down to one or two Senate races.
