UMass men's basketball team is leaving Washington, D.C., after its game against George Washington University was postponed due to protests happening in the nation's capital and a curfew that was instituted by officials.
The two teams were were scheduled to play at 6 p.m. Wednesday in D.C., but the game was postponed in the afternoon shortly after protests broke out at the U.S. Capitol building.
According to a spokesperson for the UMass athletic department, the Atlantic 10 Conference will work with both institutions to reschedule the game at a later date.
"The Minutemen are currently leaving Washington, D.C., and will travel back to Massachusetts tonight," the spokesperson said in a statement.
It is unclear where the UMass basketball team was in D.C. when the protests broke out on Capitol Hill.
