Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is reportedly launching an investigation after Donald Trump’s biography was altered to say his presidential term is ending tonight.
The site reads under Trump’s name: “Donald Trump’s term ended on 2021-01-11 19:49:09.”
According to a report by BuzzFeed, a disgruntled State Department employee is responsible for changing the biography which made its way to Twitter, and got social media users talking.
The update was first noticed by NBC News political writer, Allan Smith, whose followers also noticed that the time of Trump’s term ending reportedly changed several times in several minutes.
Social media users also caught that Vice President Mike Pence’s website was also altered to say his term ended five minutes prior to Trump’s.
News of the altered date comes today (January 11) as House Democrats filed paperwork to move forward with a second impeachment of Trump, for “inciting insurrection.” Last Wednesday (January 6), Trump spoke to a mob of his supporters just hours before they breached the US Capitol building.
The FBI continues to investigate the deadly attack and the Secret Service prepares for the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden in the coming days.
For Pompeo, his attention has turned to interns and staffers who may be behind the altered websites, which were removed around 3:50 p.m.
