Fans of the best-selling fantasy novel Children of Blood and Bone are in for a treat. A film of the book is one the way from Disney and Fox via Lucasfilm studios.
This will be the first film from Lucasfilm that isn’t under the iconic Star Wars or Indiana Jones series.
Children of Blood and Bone was written by Tomi Adeyemi in 2018. It stayed number one on the New York Times Best-Seller List for 34 weeks. The story follows "Zélie Adebola" along a nail-biting adventure she set out on to restore the magic of her people, the Maji.
Adeyemi, a graduate of Harvard University, cited the ongoing social justice movements along with her fellowship studies in West African mythology and religion in Salvador, Brazil as inspiration behind her novels.
The 27-year-old penned a follow-up in 2019 entitled Children of Virtue and Vengeance.
According to a report by Deadline, This Is Us writer Kay Oyegun is writing the screenplay along with Rick Famuyiwa who is set to direct the film. Famuyiwa directed the 2015 film Dope.
In 2020, Tomi was featured on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 List and Time Magazine’s Top 100 List, which included a tribute from actor-activist John Boyega.
