Golden State Warriors Honor Kamala Harris With Special Video Tribute

As Inauguration Day sets in, Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, may receive a few celebratory text messages, phone calls and gifts. To set the tone, two-time NBA Champion Steph Curry may have presented the Vice President with the best gift of all. With the help of the Golden State Warriors, Curry gifted the former Senator with a customized Warriors jersey.

Harris is no stranger to the Warriors, Curry or the Bay Area. Harris was born in Oakland and got her start as a top attorney in the San Francisco District Attorney's office. In recent years, she's attended Warriors games and sported team gear. A few years ago, she made her colleague, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, wear a Warriors jersey to work after Kevin Durant and company beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. Adding on, Curry has also tapped in with her alma mater, Howard University. In 2019, Curry made a multi-million dollar investment in the Howard University golf program.

The Warriors not only gave the newly elected Vice President a jersey, but the team also put together a video honoring the Bay Area native. The team's short video message features a young, Black girl named Stella dribbling a basketball outdoors as she speaks about Harris.

“I’m from Oakland,” Stella said.

“I like that Kamala Harris is from Oakland too. I love that Kamala looks like me and I can do anything.”

Stella is the embodiment of the generation Harris hopes to inspire. In her acceptance speech, the Vice President said that she hoped to inspire a generation of young girls to chase their dreams regardless of society's expectations.

“Every little girl watching tonight sees that this is the world of possibilities,” Harris said.

In spite of society's preconceived notions, Harris will break barriers today as she is sworn in as the first Black woman Vice President.
