President Donald Trump issued 73 pardons and 70 commutations hours before leaving office. Included in the list were longtime allies and political operatives such as Steve Bannon, Elliott Broidy, and Paul Erickson.
Bannon was facing charges that he defrauded donors as part of an online campaign to raise money to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. Broidy, a former top fundraiser for the Trump campaign, pleaded guilty to conspiracy for trying to lobby to Trump administration on behalf of a foreign billionaire.
Erickson pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering charges and was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison. He made headlines for being the love interest of convicted Russian agent Maria Butina.
"Mr. Erickson's conviction was based off the Russian collusion hoax. After finding no grounds to charge him with any crimes with respect to connections with Russia, he was charged with a minor financial crime," the White House said.
Trump also gave a pardon to rapper Lil Wayne and commuted the sentence of Kodak Black, who were both in jail for weapons charges.
President Trump did not pardon himself or his children.
