Jokes were flying across social media over the weekend after Vice President Kamala Harris was spotted jogging up and down the steps of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. over the weekend. Harris was joined by her husband, Dough Emhoff, as they made their way through northwest Washington, D.C. Things became a bit more hysterical when people realized that members of the United States Secret Service would also be responsible for running up and down those steps as well. As expected, an agent was spotted running up and down the stairs in an overcoat and dress shoes. Everyone from host Kayla Nicole to the NFL's Blair Berry jumped in.
Harris was also honored at the Lincoln Memorial over the weekend. National Park Service unveiled a six-foot-tall piece of artwork honoring the Vice President.
“This will just be a wonderful visual emblem of this moment in time and hopefully people will reflect a little bit on all the barriers that have been broken by her election,” National Women's History Museum President Holly Hotchner said.
The portrait is unique because it is entirely made up of shattered glass. Glass art specialist Simon Berger used a photo of Harris taken by Celeste Sloman as his inspiration.
“I hit the glass directly with the hammer so that cracks and impacts occur,” Berger told the Associated Press.
“Hard hits create abstraction and I ‘paint’ with targeted fine hits.”
The installation will remain in Washington, D.C. for the rest of the week before returning to New York. It is unclear if Harris will make another trip to go see the portrait.
