If there is a blueprint that content creators can follow, Issa Rae had created it. In fact, she is the blueprint. Rising from Youtube, Rae had landed a five-year deal with WarnerMedia reportedly worth eight-figures. Through this deal, Rae and her media company, Hoorae, will develop television projects for HBO, HBO Max and Warner Bros.
"We have been in business with Issa for more than eight years, and we couldn't be prouder of our collaboration. Insecure was a breakthrough series for HBO, and there is much more on the horizon. This new deal is an opportunity to leverage the strength of WarnerMedia to provide a multitude of platforms for Issa's formidable talents as a producer and storyteller," HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys said.
"HBO has been supportive of my work since the very first general meeting I had with Casey in 2012. I'm thrilled to not only spread my creative wings with the network that makes all of my favorite series but also to produce culturally resonant stories with new voices that incite exciting conversations via Hoorae's expanded relationship with all WarnerMedia platforms," Rae added.
This is not Rae's first time doing business with HBO. Over the last five years, she's signed a series of deals with HBO and WarnerMedia, formerly known as Time Warner. During that time, she's steered her hit comedy series, Insecure, to success. In that time period, she's also starred in movies like The Photograph with Lakeith Stanfield and The Lovebirds with Kumail Nanjiani. Moving forward, she is set to work on a series called Rap Sh*t and a remake of the classic film, Set It Off. It was also reported that she was developing two shows, Him or Her and Sweet Life, with Travon Free. However, no news has been shared about those series since news broke in 2017. In the meantime, she will prepare to release the fifth and final season of Insecure.
