Actor Hill Harper is seeking to make a big impact during National Financial Literacy Month. Harper has launched "The Black Wall Street" digital wallet and financial-capacity building technology. Advertised as the first Black-owned product of its kind, "The Black Wall Street" is aiming to become the world's largest financial literacy curriculum and investment platform for marginalized communities.
"Our technology seeks to replicate the brick and mortar Black Wall Street, as a digital ecosystem that will galvanize the financially excluded and directly stimulate the economic growth and spending in marginalized communities everywhere," Harper said.
To promote the curriculum, Harper will lead a 30-city bust tour in honor of Tulsa's Greenwood district, best known as Black Wall Street. Along the way, Harper will connect with economically disadvantaged communities in large cities in an effort to offer financial resources and toolkits that can help build wealth. Throughout the trip, he will be joined by cryptocurrency visionary Najah Roberts.
"With the Black Wall Street technology, we seek to make obsolete payday lenders and other financial predators plaguing our communities, while simultaneously creating cross generational wealth transfer, for people who have historically been taught to work for our wages instead of making our wages work for us...because Black Cash Matters," Harper stated.
"To address an ecosystem of problems, a tech-based ecosystem of solutions is required. We are - and always have been - our own empowerment ecosystem. We're now creating the digitized and scalable version of the original Black Wall Street. This has always been for us and by us - it's time to reclaim that space. Just like anything it starts with education. Our measurement of impact is improved financial literacy in the Black & Latinx communities," Roberts added.
"The Black Wall Street" bus tour is set to kick off in May 2021 and the app is expected to launch this summer.
