Vice President Kamala Harris could see a promotion in the near future. At least, that's what oddsmakers are saying. US Bookies has listed the Vice President as the early favorite to earn the Democratic National Committee's nomination for President.
“Kamala Harris remains the favorite to win the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. Her 7/2 odds (22.2% implied probability) put her just ahead of Joe Biden, who’s 9/2 (18.2%) to win re-election in 2024,” a release from the betting site stated.
If the oddsmakers were correct, Harris would become the first woman of color and the first HBCU graduate to hold the position. However, there is a lot that can happen in between now and 2024. Most importantly, it appears that her colleague, President Joe Biden, is interested in running for President again. In 2024, he would be the oldest man to run for President.
"My plan is to run for reelection, that’s my expectation," Biden said earlier this year.
On the opposite end, Harris would face stiff competition. Former President Donald Trump has tested another run for the White House, but he has not committed to anything publicly. In addition, it appears that he would need a new running mate as he and Mike Pence came to blows during the Capitol Hill Riots. If the Republican nominee were not Trump, oddsmakers believe it could be former U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley. However, Haley has said that she would not run if Trump did. The two could possibly run on the same ticket.
"Recent reports suggested Haley would not run in 2024 if Trump does, but bookies say she’d have the best shot at beating him," US Bookies wrote in a press release.
“At 11/1 to win the 2024 election, she’s just behind Trump, who’s 11/2.”
