Chris Cuomo Says Police Reform Won’t Happen Until White Kids Are Killed

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo said that police reform in American won’t happen until “white people’s kids start getting killed.”

During a segment on his show on Friday (April 16), Cuomo called out white Americans who have questioned or resisted efforts to get accountability from law enforcement officers or demand reforms.

“Shootings? Gun laws? Access to weapons? Your kids start getting killed? White people’s kids start getting killed?” Cuomo said. “Those start piling up,” he continued, and said people will start to ask, “What is going on with these police?”

The statements come following the shooting deaths of 13-year-old Adam Toledo in Chicago in March, and 20-year-old Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota on April 11.

Cuomo added to his statements, calling out those who blame the victims of police-involved shootings.

“Why do that?” he said, “Because you want to make the problem ‘them,’ takes the onus off the idea that you’re wrong about policing not needing to change.”

Body camera footage of both Toledo’s and Wright’s deaths were released last week, sparking nationwide protests for several days. Their deaths have taken place as the country and world watch the trial and await a verdict of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin who killed 46-year-old George Floyd last May after kneeling on Floyd’s neck for nearly ten minutes.
