LeBron James Sets August Release Date For His Second Children's Book

Four-time NBA Champion LeBron James is quickly becoming a winner in the world of children's literature. Last year, he released his first children's book, I Promise, with illustration from New York Times-bestselling artist Nina Mata. This year, James is taking the next step in his journey by releasing his first children's chapter book. The NBA MVP's first children's book is entitled We Are Family. It follows the story of five friends from different backgrounds who work together to succeed on the basketball court.

“Everyone has a story and unique set of challenges they’re going through that we don’t hear about,” James said about his new book.

"We Are Family shows how an unlikely group of kids comes together to chase their dreams, despite having the odds stacked against them. It’s an important story of family, purpose and perseverance in the face of adversity that I hope inspires everyone who reads it to never stop dreaming and believing in what they’re capable of.”

James is not putting out this book alone. We Are Family is co-written by a Nashville-based author by the name of Andrea Williams. Williams is best known for her two books with Simon & Schuster, Bev and Fourth Down and 50. Bev tells the story of civil rights activist Bev Luther while her second book focuses on Jimmy Wilson as he overcomes a wrongful murder conviction to play in the NFL. We Are Family marks her first foray into children's literature with James.

“It’s hard to overstate the life-changing power of sports,” Williams said.

“We can see it on a community level, through the incredible work LeBron is doing with his foundation, and we can see it on an individual level in a book like We Are Family. Not all of these kids are natural athletes, but through basketball, they are able to find happiness, hope, and, most important, family.”

We Are Family will hit physical and digital bookshelves on August 31.
