Each and every time Tom Brady wins a Super Bowl title, LeBron James takes home an NBA Championship or Serena Williams wins a Grand Slam title, there are barbershop debates about who the greatest athlete of all time is. Athletes like Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt are mentioned, but one name is often forgotten -- Simone Biles.
Nearly two weeks ago, Biles put her greatness on full display when she became the first woman to ever successfully complete a Yurchenko double pike in a competition. Her legendary skill drew praise from the likes of Michelle Obama and LeBron James. Adding to her historic accomplishment, Biles donned a special leotard that had a goat illustrated across it. Bringing that same energy and outfit the mat, Biles traveled to Fort Worth, Texas for U.S. championships.
This weekend, Simone Biles made history yet again. The talented gymnast was able to bring home a record seventh national women's all-around title at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas on Sunday. Not only did she win, but she also blew away the completion. With a total score of 119.650, she finished 4.7 points ahead of the second-place finisher, Jordan Chiles.
"I feel like I did try to enjoy it because it could be one of the last championships that I'll attend," Biles said after her historic victory.
"But it's also the road to Tokyo, and after this we have trials, so we just have to really embrace the moment."
Chiles and Biles will both compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials later this month. Together, they are expected to anchor the U.S Gymnastics Team as they head to Tokyo, Japan next month for the Olympics.
"I feel like every single championship stands out for a different reason, but this one stands out specifically because it's the road to Tokyo," Biles said about the Olympic road ahead for her and her potential temmates.
"We came out here, and we did what we were supposed to."
