A Barbie doll celebrating tennis champion Naomi Osaka sold out on Monday (July 12) within minutes of its release on Amazon.
The new Naomi Osaka Barbie Role Model was created by Barbie manufacturer Mattel and features the Nike outfit Osaka wore during the 2020 Australian Open, along with a mini replica of her Yonex tennis racket and ball.
“It’s such an honor to be a part of the Barbie Role Model series and to remind young girls that they can make a difference in the world,” the 23-year-old star athlete said in an official press release. “I want young girls everywhere to feel empowered to dream big and to know that if they believe in themselves that anything is possible!”
This isn’t the first time Osaka has had a Barbie made of her. In 2019, she was featured as a Barbie Shero during the brand’s 60th anniversary and honored with a one-of-a-kind 11-inch Barbie doll.
Though the virtual shelves have been cleared out, you can pre-order the doll on Barbie.com for $29.99. The dolls are set to ship starting August 15.
Osaka is headed to Tokyo to play in the Olympics following a break from competing she took for her mental health. Osaka won Best Female Athlete at the 2021 EPSYs Awards.
