Teyana Taylor is teaming up with A.V. Rockwell to star in the upcoming film, A Thousand And One. The multi-hyphenate star will play the role of Inez, a young mother who illegally takes her son out of foster care and moves out to New York, New York, While adapting to the fast-paced city, the two must keep their secret while building a new life.
Taylor is a seasoned actress who recently starred alongside Jermaine Fowler, Arsenio Hall, Rotimi and Eddie Murphy in Coming 2 America. Taylor has also starred in Netflix's The After Party, FOX's Star, VH1's The Breaks and Stomp The Yard: Homecoming. In the near future, she is set to debut a new reality show called We Got Love Teyana and Iman on E!
Rockwell is a young director from Jamaica, Queens. Over the last few years, she's directed a number of short films including The Gospel, Feathers, Zara Larsson: Uncover, B.L.B and Open City: Kids. In 2019, Rockwell broke into the television industry by directing an episode of Lena Waithe's Boomerang spinoff series. A Thousand One will mark her first foray into the world of feature films.
A Thousand And One is backed by Focus Features, Sight Unseen, Makeready and Hillman Grad Productions. Makeready and Hillman Grad previously worked together to develop Queen & Slim starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith. The group behind A Thousand And One is confident Rockwell and Taylor can also achieve success.
“A.V.’s script absolutely floored us with its insights, emotions and humanity, and we are thrilled to join the powerhouse teaming of Hillman Grad, Makeready and Sight Unseen to bring her directorial talents to the screen," Focus Features Chairman Peter Kujawski said.
Taylor, Rockwell and the cast have already kicked off production in New York, but a release date has not been set.
