Gymnastics champion Simone Biles is set to return to competing in the last women’s artistic gymnastic event of the Tokyo Olympics.
“We are so excited to confirm that you will see two US athletes in the balance beam final tomorrow –– Suni Lee AND Simone Biles!!!” USA Gymnastics tweeted early Monday morning (August 2). “Can’t wait to watch you both!”
The announcement came moments before the floor exercise final began, an event Biles withdrew from after suffering from a condition known in the gymnastics world as the “twisties.”
Last week, Biles shocked the world by exiting several events after performing on the vault. She later explained the condition and how dangerous it can be for athletes such as herself who rely on muscle memory for safe landing.
The 24-year-old four-time gold medalist cheered on her teammates while resting after withdrawing from events.
Biles will join her gold medal-winning teammate Sunisa Lee on the beam Tuesday (August 3). Biles previously won bronze for her 2016 performance on the balance at the Rio Games.
