Simone Biles made her return to Olympic competition on Tuesday (August 3) and made history in the process.

The 24-year-old gymnastics champion performed on the balance beam, clutching the bronze medal and tying for the most Olympic medals ever won by an American gymnast in history.

Biles ended her routine with a stunning double-pike dismount after delivering a much-awaited performance. The gymnast received hugs from other competitors after finishing her routine and after sticking her landing, Biles jumped up and down in celebration.

"Making history. Always," Team USA tweeted early Tuesday morning (August 3) in celebration of Simone's latest feat.

Biles’ latest victory brings her all-time medal count to seven, and comes after she withdrew from multiple Olympic events over concerns for her mental and physical well-being, due to a battle with the “twisties.”

She tied Shannon Miller with the most Olympic medals, though Biles has two more gold medals than Miller.

At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Biles won bronze on the balance beam –– her only other non-gold medal out of a total of five. In 2019, Biles won the World Champion title, and still retains her title of most decorated American gymnast.
