Sharing your pick for greatest of all time can be a hot button issue, especially when it comes to R&B singers from the 80s. But Nicki Minaj recently revealed her pick for the crown title earlier this week with little push back from fans.
The “Fractions” rapper posted to Instagram on Tuesday night (August 10) revealing a picture of the late, great Whitney Houston’s debut self-titled album cover with the caption, “Greatest album of all time.”
Nicki’s revealed pick came just one day after the late singer’s 58th birthday. The album ranked No. 249 on Rolling Stone’s second edition of its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list, jumping from the No. 257 spot from the original list.
Houston was 21 years old when the album was released in February 1985, putting out three hit singles: “Saving All My Love For You,” “How Will I Know,” and “Greatest Love Of All.” The album, according to the music magazine, is the first debut album and first by a female solo act to produce three No. 1 singles.
Nicki added to her tribute to “Nippy,” posting a video on her Instagram stories of her listening to “All At Once,” from the album she dubbed the greatest.
Last year, Houston became the first Black artist to have three albums certified Diamond. She was also posthumously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
