It has been a long time coming, but Anthony Mackie has secured the leading role in the upcoming Captain America film. Details are regarding the film are still a bit unclear, but Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson have been tapped to write the script. Musson and Spellman worked with Mackie on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier earlier this year.
Mackie is no stranger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over the years, he's appeared as The Falcon in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and Avengers: Endgame. More importantly, he's no stranger to the big and bright light of Hollywood. Throughout his career, Mackie has starred in a number of critically acclaimed films like The Hurt Locker, 8 Mile and The Banker. Most recently, he starred alongside Snowfall's Damson Idris in Outside The Wire.
There is no release date for the next Captain America film just yet, but that does not mean Marvel isn't hard at work creating new superhero movies. This week, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will debut in theaters. Also, Marvel just rolled out the latest Eternals trailer starring Lauren Ridloff and Brian Tyree Henry. Not to mention, Disney+ just debuted the first batch of What If...? episodes. The animated series puts superheroes in alternate realities, playing out the fantasies of Marvel's biggest fans. It also features Chadwick Boseman's last voice-over work as Black Panther.
Marvel is also hard at work on the Black Panther sequel. Led by Ryan Coogler, the film will bring back its biggest stars like Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya and Winston Duke. I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel has also reportedly joined the cast. It is expected to hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
