Five months have passed since America got its last official stimulus check. Back in March, when President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law, millions of Americans received a third stimulus check worth $1,400. Now, it seems unlikely there will be another one for most people, however there are a few million people who'll be able to get one more worth another $1,400, but it's not without a catch.
The American Rescue Plan sent $1,400 to eligible recipients as well as $1,400 for each child that they have. It turns out that those payments apply to kids that have not yet been born but will be this year. That means that the two to three million people who meet the eligibility requirements and who have a child this year will get another $1,400 check, though it won't come until after they file their taxes in 2022.
To qualify, Americans who have a baby this year must make $75,000 or less as an individual or $150,000 or less as a couple. Anyone making between $150,000 and $160,000 will still get some money as well if they have a child, but it won't be the full $1,400.
It should be noted the American Rescue Plan is really helping parents out. In addition to the stimulus checks, there are also monthly payments of at least $250 as part of the expanded child tax credit. Learn more about that here.
If you've had a kid this year or will be having one, go to the IRS child tax credit portal to add a new dependent so you are able to take advantage of the payments. And don't worry if you missed any checks - if you did, you'll get all the money you are entitled to after filing your taxes next year.
