Police have arrested a 22-year-old suspect in connection to the murder of Aaron Lowe.

On Sunday (October 3), the Salt Lake City Police Department arrested Buk M. Buk in Draper, Utah — about 19 miles south of Salt Lake City — after a weeklong investigation into the shooting death of Lowe, a 21-year-old football player at the University of Utah.

"In a time of need, we turned to our community," Salt Lake City police chief Mike Brown said in a statement. "We asked people to come forward and to share the information they had. Because of those tips and the unrelenting pursuit of justice from our homicide detectives, we have arrested the person accused of murdering Aaron Lowe. So many lives have been impacted from this senseless shooting."

Lowe, who was a sophomore, was shot and killed at a house party on September 26, hours after the Utes beat Washington State. A second person, a 20-year-old woman who has not been identified by police, was also shot at the party and remains in the hospital in critical condition.

Buk has been charged with aggravated murder, attempted murder and felony discharge of a firearm.

In August, Lowe became the first recipient of the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship, which is voted on by the Utes football team, honored Ty Jordan a 19-year-old tailback who was killed in an accidental shooting in 2020.
