Los Angeles Lakers Forward Carmelo Anthony put on a show at the Staples Center on October 24. After scoring only 10 points in the first half against the Memphis Grizzlies, he poured in 18 points in the second half to help Los Angeles defeat Memphis. Not only did he help Los Angeles win on Sunday, but he also improved his standing on the NBA's all-time scoring list. His 28-point performance pushed him past Moses Malone to claim the ninth spot on the NBA's all-time scoring list.
"I'm still here doing it," Anthony said after the team's 121-118 win against Memphis.
"I think that's what I'm honestly excited about. I'm here in Year 19 still doing what I'm able to do. Still passionate about the game. Still passionate about coming to work every day and getting better. And what a better night to reach ninth than with a win, the way that we needed a win tonight."
Each of Anthony's points was needed on Sunday. With the Lakers down by two points, he hit two three-point shots with less than four minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
"He didn't crawl up to that milestone," Anthony's coach, Frank Vogel, said.
"He blew the doors off of it."
Vogel was not the only person to give Anthony his flowers after the game. His friend and teammate, LeBron James, also applauded Anthony after his team's close win.
"Usually when some of my friends have these kind of achievements, I text them or call them or FaceTime or put something on social media," James said.
"In this case I got to do it in person, because he's my teammate now, so it made it special for me."
Anthony, James and Vogel will continue their regular season campaign on Tuesday against the San Antonio Spurs.
