Serena Williams will be recognized as a fashion icon at the upcoming FIT Gala, multiple outlets reported. The 23 Grand Slam winner will receive the Fashion Icon Breakthrough Award at the gala schedule to take place on April 13.
The tennis champion has turned heads on and off the court for her daring looks that celebrate her personal swag and eye for style. Williams will also be recognized for accomplishments including investing in companies that put diversity in action, the launch of her own clothing line, S by Serena, and her jewelry line collaboration with Signet Jewelers –– which is available at Zales.
Television and film producer Debra Martin Chase, FIT alumna and founder of Harlem's Fashion Row Brandice Daniel, and Estée Lauder Style and Image Director Aerin Lauder will also be honored at the gala.
"We are so proud to recognize these outstanding leaders –– women who have made a profound impact in their respective industries spanning fashion, beauty, sports and entertainment," Dr. Joyce Brown, FIT President said in a statement.
"Each one –– in her creativity, determination, drive, and self-confidence –– serve as role models for FIT's talented students who are inspired by their many achievements."
The annual FIT Gala helps support the FIT Foundation that in turns supports the next generation of fashion students.
