Wanda Sykes has promised to bring the spirit of her beloved alma mater to the 94th Annual Oscars Awards Ceremony.
The comedian and Academy Awards host shouted out Hampton University from the red carpet on Sunday (March 27), after being asked what the audience can expect from one of the Virginia HBCU's "finest" alumnae.
"I'm going to bring it," The Upshaws star vowed. "I'm going to bring that Hampton Pirate energy. It's going to be a good time," she added. Sykes graduated from Hampton in 1986.
The comedian-actress went on to acknowledge what it means to be one of three women hosting the iconic awards show ceremony, particularly after the ceremony went without a host for multiple years.
"This is our, what, two years, three years without a host? And then you get three hosts, and not just three hosts but three women. And two of them are women of color? So, man! It's going to be a great night," she said. Sykes is hosting the Oscars along side actress Regina Hall and comedian Amy Schumer.
The Black and HBCU excellence doesn't stop with Sykes and Hall either. Will Packer, a graduate of Florida A&M University, is producing this year's awards show and brought an all Black production team with him.
